Counting fence

FishNet1This technique consists of a fishing net that served as a fence and capturing system for counting and measuring salmonid and other species. The V-shape counting fence is installed across the width of the river where fish are directed into the wooden trap in the center. Technicians monitored fish migrations and populations 24 hours a day throughout the spring trout and fall Atlantic salmon migration period. The counting fences also provide a method of capturing Atlantic salmon wild brood stock for next years hatchery fry.
